Love Our Local and Upcoming Events

This past weekend, The West Central Park attended the Love Our Local event in East Olympia.  This is the third annual Love Our Local and WCP was very happy to have been invited to take part in what is quickly becoming a fantastic community tradition.  Big thanks to the organizers of the event for hosting us and making this great idea an exciting reality.

It’s going to be a busy month and a half for the West Central Park, with three major events on the horizon.

The first is our Sustainable Living Exposition, which will take place on Saturday, September 7th from 1PM to 5PM at the Park.  We are happy to announce that the lineup now includes the following participants:

Native Plant Salvage
Sound Native Plants
City of Olympia, Heritage Commission
Intercity Transit
Olympia Federal Savings
NW Ecobuilding Guild
City of Olympia Public Works Transportation
Options 4 Solar, Plug In Olympia
Transition Olympia
Fellowship of Reconciliation
The Dispute Resolution Center
Heartsparkle Players
ION Ecobuilding
Environmental Connections Outdoor School
Matter Art Gallery

Then, on September 17th at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church on Harrison Avenue, the West Central Park will be holding an open call for members and community roundtable.  A key element of how the West Central Park Project functions is the presence of a large and diverse membership base.  This is the group that helps elect the Board of Trustees, appoints the Board of Overseers, and forms the backbone of the Project.  This is the opening night of our membership rolls and we sincerely hope we’ll see as many people as possible sign up.  The public will also get to hear from the Board on the current state and plans for future progress of the West Central Park and also ask questions of the Board.  The event will start at 7PM.

Finally, we will be hosting our first formal fundraising drive on October 12 at the Heritage Ballroom.  We’ll have music, food, and presentations from the Board as well as a silent auction and other fundraising activities.  More details will be coming as the event date gets closer.

This week, the Board will meet on Thursday to approve the final bylaws and to continue planning these events.  On Sunday at 10AM we’ll be having our weekly work party, the last one before the Sustainable Living Exposition.  If you’re interested in coming to help out, all are welcome, just meet us at the Park at 10 and we’ll find a project for you to dig in to.

See you at the Park!
