Sunday Work Party, Pathway Lights and Food Court Update!

Hello Park Folk!

As the volunteers and board members of West Central Park work to maintain a green, public open space that can serve the recreational, educational and creative needs of the community that surrounds it, it is our vision for the future that motivates our efforts. We envision a green, walkable neighborhood and a resilient connected community that can prosper from and care for this oasis for many generations to come. While it’s a lot of fun to watch the changes take shape as the Park is developed, it is even more thrilling to be a part of those changes!

Park pathway lights have been ordered! The order for our 12 beautiful hand crafted steel pathway lights will ship to us the week of November 28th. In the meantime, we will be plotting out and marking the locations, planning the excavation and scheduling the electrical work. We will be able to save some money by digging the trenches ourselves with some small machinery. If you would like to be a part of the trenching crew let us know! We are expecting that the lighting of the new system will be on the Winter Solstice, December 21st. Stay tuned for more info!

As the Parkside Cafe and Food Court land use has been approved, construction will be undertaken over the next several months. The WCP Board will be closing the current temporary food court on December 1st to make room for construction equipment and re-surfacing of the alleyway and the food court. The target date for the new food court and alley is early May. The new food court will have three food truck pads that will have water, grey water disposal and electricity in addition to use of the commissary kitchen when it is completed that summer.

Look for two new project signs at the north and south ends of the Park block in the coming weeks. Phoebe’s Bakery at the south end of the block is the first of six new businesses that are slated to be developed around the Park. The signs will offer a pictorial rendering of future plans and give you a way to find out more about the development timeline.

Lots going on at Harrison and Division, come check it out!
