West Central Park Weekly News #150

Hey Park Peeps!

Fall is slowly creeping in and the Harvest time of year is approaching. At West Central we are gearing up for some great Fall events including the United Way Day of Caring Kick Off Breakfast and volunteer day on October 1st from 8-1, WCP Harvest Fest on October 2nd from 12-4, the Gloria Dei Pet Blessing on October 9th (stay tuned for the time) and the glorious last few weeks of the West Oly Farm Market every Tuesday from 4-7pm.

Next Sunday, at our regular Sunday Work Party, we will need some extra muscle to excavate and re build one of the Parks shorter pathways. This pathway on the west side of the Park, is about 10 feet long and 4 feet wide, and needs to be excavated and re graveled and built with pervious Tru Grid. Come get a hands on experience with setting pervious pavement from 10-2 next Sunday, September 25th!

The WCP Board of Trustees recently approved public art in the Park! If you or someone you know would like to apply to have an outdoor sculpture at West Central let us know. There will be two plinths installed, one at the north end and one at the south end of the Park, that will be able to securely anchor the art pieces for up to 6 months at a time. We will be reviewing art applications over the next several months. If you’d like your piece to be reviewed for a spot on our plinths contact us at wcp@aparkforus.org.

If you have a special skill with organizing membership programs contact us! We are in the planning phase of launching a WCP Friends of the Park membership program and we need some help with merchandise development, outreach and databasing. Let us know if you have some skills to share!

The West Central Park is here as an oasis, a sanctuary in the chaos of a commercial world. The Park is free for you to come and visit with neighbors and friends in the middle of your busy day. Stop by, take a stroll and smell the flowers and put a lovely spin on your schedule.

See you around the Park!
