Hey Park Folk!
This Sunday should be chilly but sunny and bright and just perfect for some brisk work at West Central Park. We will be continuing our work of spreading compost on the gardens and tidying up the grounds. There will be hot cider available and the work party will run from 11-1. Come be a part of a neighborhood project that can last for years to come with our tender love and care!
In news around the block, a re-zone was recently approved by the City of Olympia for the two historic houses on Cushing Street. The two houses at 123 and 135 Cushing were previously in the residential 6-12 zone, and now share the HDC-3 zone with the Park and the west side of the block. Ms. Elliott, the developer, plans to put covenants in place to protect the grounds as well as the houses from future inappropriate development. The houses currently enjoy protections both from the National and Local Historic Registers. Currently the future plans include a 4 unit lodging house for the Victorian house at 123 Cushing. A presubmission conference last week shed light on the do-ability of the project and permits will be sought for building two small bed and bath units in the south yard of the house. Two parking spots will be added along the alley in the back of the property. The future plan for 135 Cushing is for a small restaurant. No conferences have been scheduled with the City yet for that project.
Please contact wcp@aparkforus to find out more how you can get involved in coming events at the Park or serving as a volunteer or a board member. The work is challenging, but very fun and rewarding. Perks include being able to go by the Park anytime and see the changes made by your very own hands.
